What to Drink for Dry January

2025 will be my 10th Dry January! I always stock up on Black Friday sales so here is everything I have talked about on my blog and restocked. This year I  purchased from Lyre  directly from their website to get the sale pricing but they are also sold on amazon. And from De Soi, founded by singer Katy Perry,  which is a range of non-alcoholic apéritifs made with natural adaptogens. I'm on my way to NYC today to see the Christmas decorations and take a live peloton class!

Stocking your fridge and pantry with different fun drinks that can replace that ritual you have of drinking helps with Dry January. It's essential to make a plan for your Dry January so you don't set yourself up for failure, so stock up on non-alcoholic options. Find out what restaurants in your city have mocktail options. This way you don't have to hide out from your friends in January. You don't have to say "I can't", you can instead focus on where you can get a mocktail. Think of it as a challenge, not about deprivation and rules.

I bought the Lyre's Signature Premixed Sampler which included Classico, Margarita, Amalfi Spritz, and  G&T (gin and tonic). These are canned mixed cocktails but they also sell all the spirits separate in bottles so you can chose how much sugar you want in your drink.

The Amalfi Spritz is a pre-mixed drink that contains a combination of their Italian Spritz and Classico. So you can just pop open a can and pour over some ice and you're good to go. The Italian Spritz as you can imagine by the same is an Aperol Spritz.  I reviewed it previously on this blog, check the link below.

Classico I've had many times, it's a sweet sparkling wine with classic green apple tartness.

I also got their White Cane Spirit which was crafted to capture the essence of a gently aged white rum. I'm going to mix it with a passion fruit syrup to make passion fruit mojitos.

From De Soi I ordered two new flavors I haven't tried. To be honest I don't like their other flavors as they are quite bitter and are an acquired taste. I figure these flavors I could add a drop of stevia to it if it's not sweet enough for me. They are $5 a can for a can smaller than a soda.

Inspired by the classic Moscow Mule, St. Moritz Mule is a bright blend of juicy pomegranate and cranberry, ginger spice, and subtle rosemary, complete with rich and relaxing adaptogens L-theanine, lion's mane, and reishi mushroom.

Their take on an Aperol Spritz. Spritz Italiano is a harmonious blend of sweet and bitter citrus, crisp white grape, and bold gentian root, complete with rich and relaxing adaptogens L-theanine, lion's mane, and reishi mushroom.

I will also be making a Cranberry Mule:
2 oz cranberry juice
1/2 oz lime juice
ginger beer (I buy the low-sugar version)
garnish: mint sprig and cranberries
At my grocery store I found Giesen wines sauvignon blanc which tastes just like the real thing! My grocery store strangely insisted on carding me because the back of the bottle said it has 0.5% alcohol, which is the same as GTS kombucha. Did you know that baking vanilla has 35% alcohol in it. I once got carded at Trader Joe's for that.

If you want to make fancy cocktails, get some premium all natural syrups from Liquid Alchemist.

I know some people think mocktails are a waste of calories and full of sugar but I do not. A glass of red wine has 125 calories, soda, cranberry juice and margaritas all have calories and a lot of sugar. I like to drink what tastes good. But you can make mocktails from muddled fruit, fresh lime juice and some club soda. Drinks in our society do play a large role in community and celebration and being able to have options other than water when I don't drink cocktails is helpful.

Come up with some fun activities to do in January so you can still meet up with your friends but not have the outing revolve around drinking. Schedule your calendar so you have activities to look forward to.
