In the summer time I love a scent that transports me to a tropical paradise. Imagine the scent of the ocean breeze, while you sit on the sand lathered in Hawaiian Tropic SPF 8. When I think of a beachy scent I think of the fragrance notes: frangipani, tiare, ylang-ylang, & coconut. The perfumes on this list capture that feeling of the tropics and make you feel like you're on vacation in Hawaii, the Maldives, Bora Bora, Fiji or the Seychelles. Even if you're not traveling this summer, you can still wear these fantastic fragrances that transport you to a beautiful beach.
Tiare is Tahitian gardenia and the official flower of the country. It was brought from the South Pacific to Hawaii. Hawaiian leis are made from orchids, plumerias, jasmine, tiare and tuberose. The tiare flower is pure white, while frangipani (below) is white with yellow accents or can be pink.
Giardini di Toscana - Bora Bora
Notes are Tiare, Ylang ylang, Jasmine, Apricot, Coconut Milk, White Musk, Jasmolactone, Vanilla, Amber, White Musks, Caramel. 2023 release.
This was an absolute love at first sniff! This is the newest bottle to my collection. It's bursting with the lushest, dense tropical experience with Tiare and Ylang-Ylang. The white florals dominate over a layer of creamy coconut, vanilla and caramel. This is my personal fave from this list. It also comes in a body lotion which is good for layering your perfume to make it last longer.
Notes are Frangipani, Jasmine, Lemon, Ylang-Ylang and Sandalwood. 2021 release.
It's a light, fresh, airy citrus frangipani with moderate longevity and light sillage. It has no vanilla or amber like the others on this list.
Bergamot, Tiare Flower, Coconut, Ylang-Ylang, Vanilla, Labdanum and Guaiac Wood. 2024 release.
Inspired by Monoi Oil. You get a lot of ylang-ylang and if you didn't know what monoi oil smelled like you would think this fragrance is fruity and very "perfumey".
Tom Ford - Soleil Blanc
Top notes are Pistachio, Bergamot, Cardamom and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Tuberose, Ylang-Ylang and Jasmine; base notes are Coconut, Amber, Tonka Bean and Benzoin.
There are two version: the original 2016 release and the 2018 flanker which has less coconut and is less sweet. Soleil Blanc is creamier and smoother while Eau Soleil is much more crisper, vibrant and spicier. Both are salty. It also comes in a travel size.
I'm not going to the beach unless I'm spraying this. You might think its silly if I'm going in the water, but I'll spray it on my clothes and hair and it feels like you're on the most luxurious vacation. Imagine being on a beach in Europe with salty skin smelling your sunscreen, that is what is captured here but more upscale and refined than Hawaiian Tropic. It smells like a luxe vacation in St. Barts. Dupe
Aerin - Mediterranean Honeysuckle Tiare
Top notes is Lemon; middle note is Gardenia; base note is Tiare Flower. 2024 release.
Heavy on the lemon. This is a limited edition flanker for my favorite perfume Mediterranean Honeysuckle but they added a Tiare note. I think it's beautiful. It is citrusy on top and then white flowers on the dry down. It's a tiare scent for those who want to be surrounded with a tropical summer vibe but without the heavy, sweet, yellow flower or coconut notes. Safe for work.
Ylang-Ylang, Hibiscus, Palm Leaf, Lotus and Ginger; middle notes are Frangipani and White Flowers; base notes are Coconut Milk, Vanilla and Musk. 2017 release.
Also comes in travel size. This has a sharp ylang-ylang note and opens to faint spiciness from the ginger and green notes from the palm leaf. I would describe this as a tropical salt air breeze. This is similar to Beach Walk by Maison Margiela but Beach Walk is saltier. Dupe
Cocoa beans, bergamot, sweet honey, marshmallow, frangipani, vanilla pods, sweet toffee, dry amber. 2023 release
Sweet candied frangipani with marshmallows; very strong.
Notes are the tiare flower of Tahiti combined with vanilla absolute, jasmine powder, coconut milk, ylang-ylang and roses. 2005 release.
This is intensely floral, especially the ylang ylang and tiare. The jasmine and coconut come off sweet and creamy. It's too strong for indoors.
Top notes are Tahitian Tiare Flower, Fruity Notes, Pineapple and Ylang-Ylang; middle notes are Jasmine, White Flowers, Orange Blossom and Amyl Salicylate; base notes are Vanilla, Musk and Agarwood (Oud). 2013 release. Smells similar to BoraBora.
This is vacation in a bottle! It has notes of pineapple, Monoi (an infused perfume-oil made from soaking the petals of Tahitian gardenias (Tiare flowers) in coconut oil), and ylang-ylang in a musky base. Imagine a mix of tropical flowers with fruit but its not too sweet. The scent is quite similar to Montale Intense Tiare however Jaune Oud Intense smells opulent, expensive and heavy. This tropical, floral scent is so sexy and a masterpiece! You will smell like a bronzed goddess! I feel so beautiful when I wear it! The word jaune means yellow in French. This is such a happy, warm, yellow scent.
Wear this unique fragrance on your European vacation to make the hot summer nights magical while giving off a beautiful scent trail. It's a definitely a statement piece that you want to have in your collection that is stunning, intoxicating and will turn heads!
Liquides Imaginaires - Blanche Bete
This is a sexy gourmand! You can't go to the beach without this! Think cocoa butter blended with coconut milk and some lightweight florals in the background. This is so good and very long lasting! Also perfect for an all white outfit.
My top five fragrances from this list are Bora Bora, Oud Jaune, Blanche Bete, Mango Kiss and Mediterranean Honeysuckle Tiare in that order.
When you smell good, you feel good. I wear perfumes anytime I go out and even at home sometimes. I do apply a generous amount, I want the whole room to know I walked in. I need a perfume to announce me when I walk in the room. I've always loved perfume and has just grown with age.
For Men this summer I recommend light citrus scents to go with the hot weather:
Parfums de Marly - Perseus this is a 2024 release and the notes are: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Blackcurrant Bud, Vetiver, Green Mandarin, Geranium, Dry Woods, Cashmere Wood, Ambergris Accord)
