Gift Guide for the Jetsetter

I like to think I’m somewhat of a stylish traveler myself with a pink suitcase and carefully planned travel outfit.  I've posted a few posts about my favorite travel accessories so I thought it time I post an updated list of my essentials for travel. I'm getting excited about my trip to Mexico and will be using all the pink items listed.  I'm setting some big travel goals for myself, I want to fly Qatar Airways Qsuites which has been rated the best business class product in the sky. They fly to 9 cities in the USA. Anyway, this gift guide should have something for every globetrotter on your list.

Here I am in my travel outfit at 8am waiting for the Tube after an overnight flight to London. I'm wearing a black t-shirt, black leggings, black slip on sneakers and a kimono.

Suitcase
I've had a pink suitcase for a decade now. It only had 2 wheels so it got heavy when I had to pull it. I was hesitant to upgrade to 4 wheels until I found the perfect light pink replacement. I think a piece of luggage is the most important item to invest in.  My suitcase was exactly the right size, when I filled it up it always weighed in just under 50 lbs. The hard shell outside held up after many international trips.  I could always easily spot it on the baggage claim conveyor belt. I bought the Tommy Bahama Bellini suitcase which I don't see anymore sold as a single. I mean who wants to buy a set of pink suitcases? Actually once I saw a woman and her boyfriend walking down the street with 2 pink suitcases and I thought this is what happens when you have to find a use for the extra pink suitcase you were forced to buy. lol

Noise Cancelling Headphones
Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones are wireless and have 20 hours of battery life. The $400 price tag may deter some people so look out for them during Black Friday sales. Or Best Buy offers a 6-month no interest payment plan. The headphones have an elegant and modern design in rose gold and white.  They will help you drown out the noise of the plane.

Hand Luggage
Here is the cheetah print carry on duffel I've had since college. I actually had a 3 piece cheetah print luggage set. And when we went on spring break to the Bahamas my friend said I looked like someone going skiing with my luggage. lol What drove me crazy about the bag was that it was always falling off my suitcase. I couldn't pull the two as one unit but duffel was so heavy to carry alone. This pink duffel and this one which has already started their black friday sale. They both have a slip in the back that slides over the handle of your suitcase, how awesome is that?!

Collapsible water bottle
So you don't have to buy expensive bottled water in the airport terminal anymore, you can you use this cup to fill up at the water fountain. It's compact and leak-proof.

Travel Jewelry Case
I was looking for something to hold my chunky Kendra Scott earrings safely and this fit the bill. It also keeps your necklaces untangled. This travel jewelry box is a lifesaver when it comes to organizing your jewelry.

A Coin Purse
I tend to be cashless at home and only carry a slim credit card wallet that has very little room for bills, and definitely not coins. When I travel and tend to use cash I found I need a coin purse.

Luggage tag
Every traveler needs a cute luggage tag. On my last trip my luggage tag fell off so I started looking around for a new one. Then on a weekend trip to NYC I took the bus with my new pink carry-on hard shell suitcase and no luggage tag.  I've only used this bag one time and couldn't tell you what shade of pink it was off the top of my head. When I got off the bus I thought I saw my bag and went to reach for it, only to stop when I saw the luggage tag. It was a photo of the owner. I would have taken that woman's very similar to my bag because I'm so used to being the only pink suitcase. I thought her photo luggage tag was so useful in telling me "this is not my bag!" So I went and got myself a photo luggage tag, well two actually in case on breaks. Here is a picture of the luggage tags on my new pink suitcase, but since the colors didn't photograph well I'm showing you the photo as well.  By the way, did you know you can get a suitcase cover that is a photo of you? lol I figured the pictures I selected aren't me starring at the camera so I won't feel like I'm starring at myself.

Cord Organizer
Keep all your cords in one place. This pouch provides a simple way to organize and stow your cords, plugs, and smaller gear as we all have a lot of them these days.

Travel Pillow
I know we've all had a U shaped travel pillow but I tried out a couple new shaped ones. One is the J-Pillow  which is great if you have a window seat. I did find it a bit hot so not for use if you're on a hot plane without an individual a/c control. The turtle pillow has internal support for your neck so you can sleep anywhere. I was really surprised by it's innovative design.

Packing Cubes
They help compress your clothing so you can fit more in your suitcase and keep you organized so you can find everything. It keeps your shoes separate so the dirty bottoms aren't touching everything else. The TSA can feel the outside that only soft clothing is inside so they may not pick everything apart. I really like these fabric grey ones because they look stylish.

Dual Voltage clothes steamer
It's taken a couple trips of my steamer not working to finally realize even with a plug adapter, I can not just plug this appliance in, in another country. I had to spring for a steamer that is made to work in countries with different voltages. Same goes with my portable phone charger which stopped working on my last trip to Europe. I now know I need to buy one that has dual voltage. These appliances cost a little more but are so essential. I never travel without a portable phone charger. I take so many pictures on my phone it runs the battery out so fast. Plus I use my phone for maps which is another battery drainer. Looking for plugs in every restaurant is a pain, so it's just easier to bring a portable charger with me because I can't afford for my phone to die while traveling.

Slim packing cube
This small cube is only 2.5 x 14 x 5 inches and is perfect to keep my undergarments separate and easy to find.

Books
You should always bring a book with you when you travel as you will undoubtedly have long waiting periods and may not want to run your phone battery. I love this Travel Quiz book from Lonely Planet. I also recently read Demi Moore's memoir which was a quick page turner.

Travel scarf A great alternative to a money belt to keep your iphone on you when you fly so you don't have to keep a purse at your seat. You should stick your phone into the hidden pocket.

Must have travel apps
Splitwise  I use this handy app when I travel with friends to keep track of joint expenses like meals.
Timeshifter  helps you to adjust to new times zones by telling you what to do each hour.
Rome2Rio I use this all the time to figure out how to get from point A to B in foreign countries, it gives you public bus and train information.
TripIt travel organizer app, you email it all your flight/hotel info and it makes a handy itinerary for you which you can share with others.
CityMaps2Go the app works while your phone is in airplane mode! Before you leave home  you pre-enter all the places you want to go on the map, then when you're there, the map moves as you walk.

How to Disinfect Your Airplane Seat
I've been doing this for years. I pride myself on rarely getting sick and thus I carry lysol wipes when I travel which I believe has helped. When I get on a plane I use a wipe to clean all surfaces I touch. Then I do the same at my hotel with the TV remote. I've seen that Lisa Rinna and Naomi Campbell do the same so I'm not the only one out there doing this. lol The article says that the seat back pocket on the plane has the highest concentrations of germs, so I need to invest in a bag to put in there. Another thing I heard about lately, if you need a seat belt extender for airplanes, you can order them off amazon to avoid the embarrassment of asking a flight attendant for one.
