Project Pan 2023: 10 Makeup Products to Finish this Year

Project Pan is a challenge to finish makeup/skincare/ haircare products to get your money's worth. You know how if you use enough blush or eyeshadow you eventually "hit pan" and see the metal in the middle. This way you're not letting things go to waste and expire. It teaches you how long it takes you to go through an item and this will help to mold your shopping habits. For instance, you don't need to buy another blush when you already own 10 when you know it would take a whole year to go through a blush. This project should not be a punishment, rather it's an experiment for 12 months to get the full value and enjoyment out of things you already own.

People generally start this project in January, but I've been using all these products since January so I'm just officially tracking the challenge now. There's different ways to do this, but I'm doing Project 10 Pan where you pick 10 makeup products and the goal is to use them 20 times or hit pan by the end of the year. For makeup the idea is to try, if you can,  to pick one product from each makeup category so you can focus on using just one blush for instance. I also selected 16 skincare products and 4 haircare products and that goal is to finish them by the end of the year. Hopefully that will clear out some products in my bathroom. I few years ago I did a no buy for haircare products for a year and actually lasted 18 months without buying anything new!

We all buy way too much stuff and it sits in our drawers and gets expired, especially clean skincare brands and liquid/cream products, they expire faster. So I picked products I like and enjoy using but want to make more of an effort to use them more. At the end of the experiment you get a sense of accomplishment and waste less things you've spent money on. Concealers, cream blushes, foundation and lip glosses expire one year after you've opened them.

What I'm panning:

Kosas Concealer  I've used half already. I wear it for all my zoom meetings because I feel I'm not in the best lighting which creates shadows on my face. I love the formula of this concealer but its not a perfect match for my  skin tone so I don't wear it outside.

Merit Blush This is sheer, and gives your face an oily glow, perfect for no makeup looks and zoom meetings.

Kosas Wet Lip Oil This is smaller than most lip glosses so it should be easy to finish.

Lisa Eldridge Lip Gloss  Such a pretty color but I forget to wear it.

Becca Setting Mist - This is old as the brand went out of business in 2021 so I want to finish it before buying a new one, I have my eye on the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray

Charlotte Tilbury Setting Powder I'm close to pan on this in the mini size. I use this to set my under eye concealer.

Rose Inc Skin Tint I wasn't impressed with this so I thought I need to practice using it more so maybe I can get a better hang of it, and  finish it since it was pricey.  Then I want to try the Ilia skin tint next.

I love both of these eyeshadows palettes so much that I wanted to get more use out of them! They're too big to travel with so I'll never take them on vacation/business trips. Plus they were pricey so I want to get my money's worth. I love the purple in both of them! Eyeshadow palettes expire after two years afterwards they get microorganisms on them such as bacteria, fungus and parasites.

ABH Nouveau Eyeshadow Palette - An ethereal fairy palette, or think Bridgerton, with lots of sea moss greens and a unique pastel purple which I don't have in my collection. Also has pressed glitter and intense pigments, the palette is so striking!

Melt Cosmetics She's in Parties Palette - A vampy purple color story,  plum fantasy with greyish undertones. It's so gorgeous!

MAC eyeshadow used as an eyeliner as I like this so much better than eyeliner pencils which just look too stark or harsh on me. The color is P for Potent mixed into an ombre with Nude Model

Note: Wearing a black eyeliner with no other eyeshadow or lashes is not a balanced look and makes your eyes look small. Your eyes are the focal point of your face. If you're over 30, you may want to consider retiring that stark black eyeliner pencil and go for a less intense look with eyeshadow applied with a brush on your undereye.
