Kombucha

Have you heard of Kombucha? It's fermented beverage made from black tea and sugar that becomes a probiotic. It’s been consumed in China for over 2000 years. It supports a healthy gut even if you don’t have stomach issues. It boosts your immune system with antioxidants and gives you energy.

It tastes fizzy, sour and sweet, it’s like a healthy soda. The beneficial bacteria help with nutrient absorption, digestion, and aids the detox process. Kombucha helps with energy production, cell regeneration, stabilizes blood sugar, and replenishes good bacteria in your stomach.

I started buying it from my local farmers market every Saturday, then a year later did the math and realized GTS from the grocery store was much cheaper. lol Kombucha is made from a SCOBY which is a living organism that feeds on sugar and turns tea into a fermented drink. I looked into making this from scratch at home, but ultimately I didn’t want the hassle and wanted to ensure taste quality. Sometimes you’ll find pieces of culture floating in the bottle which is normal.

If you’re worried about calories, one bottle has two servings of 30 calories and 8g of sugar. I drink half a bottle of in the morning. It also tastes good mixed half and half with sparkling water. I’ve tried every flavor of GTS and Kevita keeping notes on my phone so I remember what I like the next time I go to the grocery store. My absolute two favorite flavors are GTS Synergy Watermelon Wonder (seasonal) and Guava Goddess. Then I have a love hate relationship with the GTS Triology flavor, some batches are really good and some are not. Other good ones from the Synergy line are Heart Beet, Cosmic Cranberry, Gingerade. From Kevita I like Lavender Melon, Grapefruit (my favorite), Mojito, Blueberry basil, Citrus (tastes like margarita mix/sprite), and Tart Cherry. I used to only be able to buy them at Whole Foods but now Safeway and Trader Joe’s has them as well.  Do you like Kombucha?
