The Hidden Gems Summer: A Style Challenge

We’ve all been there, staring at a closet full of clothes and feeling like we have absolutely nothing to wear. Meanwhile, beautiful necklaces are tangled in trays and "someday" investment pieces are gathering dust.

This season, I’m changing the narrative. I’m embarking on The Hidden Gems Summer, a season-long journey to unearth the treasures I already own and turn my closet into a slow-fashion discovery rather than a chore. Instead of buying new, I’m committing to a total Accessory Audit and pairing those overlooked fashion and statement pieces with a different "back-of-the-closet" outfit every week. To keep track of it all, I'll be using my trusty Stylebook app to log what I own and monitor what actually gets worn.

The Summer Formula: Linen & Layers

Summer style is at its best when it feels effortless and lightweight. My uniform this season is built on a simple foundation: crisp, breathable linen paired with the statement jewelry that usually stays hidden away. Because classic linen acts as the perfect clean slate, I’m leaning into a few core pillars to let my accessories do the heavy lifting:

(the tanks and linen pieces I want to be sure to wear this season)

  • The Texture & Shine Contrast: Linen has a beautiful, organic matte texture. Pairing a relaxed linen shirt with high-shine statement jewelry creates a classic, intentional contrast that elevates the whole look from casual to curated.

  • The "One-and-One" Rule: Every outfit must feature at least one "forgotten" jewelry piece. Whether it's those statement earrings or a bold cocktail ring, if it hasn't seen the sun in a year, it’s coming out to play.

  • Rethink Summer Layering: In the winter, we layer fabrics. In the summer heat, we layer style. Since you can’t pile on jackets or knits, stacking rings, layering necklaces, or adding a sleek watch is how you build a complex, sophisticated outfit without adding heat.

  • Embrace Color: Summer is the perfect canvas for unexpected pops of color. A vibrant stone bead necklace or a pair of bold, colorful earrings can completely wake up a neutral linen set. Find out what your color palette is and your outfits will feel more joyful.

  • Shift the Vibe with Shoes: Your footwear choice can completely transform the direction of an outfit. Summer is the most important time to wear shoes because they can completely shift the way an outfit looks. Swapping a casual flat for a fancy sandal instantly upgrades a simple linen outfit instantly look more expensive.

  •

  • (have to break out the pretty sandals and remember to wear a hat)

  • The Power of Sunglasses & Hats: Just like a great watch, a solid pair of sunglasses signals true style intention. They are an absolute must for instantly making an outfit look more expensive. Building a mini capsule of sunglasses you love allows you to play with different vibes whether you're reaching for a rich tortoise shell or a sleek gold lens. Pair them with a classic summer straw hat, and you’ve mastered the art of effortless daytime drama while protecting yourself from the heat. My favorite summer hat.

Jewelry is frequently the last thing I put on when getting dressed, but it is often one of the most impactful details in my outfit. If I forget to put it on altogether, I honestly feel naked! The truth is, women who always look expensive are not doing more than you; they are just being a little bit more intentional. Letting your accessories do the heavy lifting changes how you look at your closet. If your wardrobe is geared toward elevated basics like crisp linen, investing in bold, playful jewelry is the absolute best way to completely transform your style without spending a fortune on trendy clothes.

We have officially moved past hyper-minimalism and entered the stacking era, specifically for ears and chunky ring stacks, where bare fingers are a thing of the past. This movement is all about personality expression, acting like maximalism’s chic little sister with lots of sculptural layers, colorful gemstones, and dramatic wrist cuffs. As you audit your collection this summer, keep an eye out for these major 2026 jewelry trends hiding in your wardrobe, including modern bezel-set stones, stackable bangles, earthy textures like tiger’s eye or quartz, and black leather cord necklaces and grandma chic vintage pieces like large round statement earrings with smooth polished stones and pinky rings. Focusing on these interesting, personality-driven pieces is the single best tool we have to make an outfit stand out and pop.

The Three-Month Roadmap

To keep the momentum going from July through September, I am breaking the challenge down into monthly milestone themes:

  • July: The Unearthing  Focus on the "easier" unworn items: the high-quality basics and simple layers you just forgot you had.

  • August: High Shine Bring out the bold jewelry, the bright colors, and the investment pieces you usually think are "too much" for a regular weekday.

  • September: The Final Polish Time for the deep rotation. Style your most "difficult" pieces one last time to decide if they stay in your permanent collection or get officially retired.

Creative "Rules" to Play By

  • The "Jewelry First" Rule: Build your outfit backward. Pick a "hidden gem" piece first like a bold turquoise necklace or a structured cuff and then find the unworn clothes to match it.

  • The Sandbox: Keep your audited jewelry in a highly visible spot. I bought a purple tray specifically to keep my favorite statement pieces front and center so I can just grab and go. It’s my daily reminder that wrists and fingers always deserve a little extra adornment in this season. (Bonus: I just bought the most beautiful metallic lilac nail polish "BRILL-ant" by Londontown that is going to look incredible next to these rings!)

  • The Sunday Stack: On Sundays, the ultimate challenge is to wear only pieces that haven't been touched in a year.

  • The Comfort Test: Does a dress look like a gem but feel like a rock in the summer heat? If it's uncomfortable, it’s a sign to let it go.

Join the Challenge: The Sunday Sort

Is it more "expensive" to wear a splurge piece every day, or to let it sit in a drawer unused? It’s time to move these pieces from "inventory" to "outfit." I challenge you to do your own Sunday Sort this week:

  1. Pull out every linen or lightweight summer item you own.

  2. Lay out all the jewelry you haven't worn since last summer.

  3. Match them up into 5 go-to outfits so you don't have to think during the work week.
