I have a an obsession with lip products! There's been so many lip launches in the last year that have gone viral. I think 2024 was the year of the lip balm. Lip balms in a squeeze tube are great because you don’t have to dig your fingers into a container to use it. I love a cushiony balm and need them to be nourishing, conditioning and on the thicker side. Lately tinted versions have come out too. Here are all the viral lip balms that I think are worth it! Consider this a lip balm showdown!
Made by a dermatologist and fragrance free. It's made from Petrolatum, Sunflower Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Aloe Vera Leaf Extract, Lactic Acid, Ceramides, Squalane, Peptides. It feels like a thinner version of Vaseline and smells like oil. It's not glossy and has no shine so I keep this at my work desk to apply during the day while I'm at work as it doesn't look like I'm wearing it. It gives you nourishment without a tackiness in feel. Average lasting power.
Paula’s Choice - Hyaluronic Acid + Peptide Lip Booster $26
It is lightweight and feels nice on the lip and gives you a glossy shine. It has a metal tip applicator which gives a nice cooling sensation. It smells like oil. The ingredients are castor oil, hyaluronic acid, peptides, squalane, shea butter, and amino acids. Doesn't last super long.
Eadem - Le Chouchou Exfoliating + Softening Peptide Lip Balm $24
Officially my favorite lip balm of all time. It’s a butter mochi fragrance, which to me smells like coffee but it's faint. From everything on this list, this is the thickest and largest size. My lips feel insanely soft. It’s buttery and it’s so good. The finish is glossy. I cannot say enough good things about this. I’m obsessed with this! It has a metal tip applicator. The brand was created specifically for melanin-rich skin, its founded by 5 young women with 3 Sudanese and 2 south Asian. I got the clear version but it comes in 4 tinted versions as well. The ingredients include shea butter, hibiscus enzymes, lactic acid, Brazilian Açaà and African Mongongo butters and a collagen-boosting peptide.
An innovative, 3-in-1 lip treatment that goes beyond traditionally occlusive balms to hydrate, exfoliate, and protect even the driest, crustiest lips. The dual-phase formula delivers instant hydration + gentle chemical exfoliation in a cocooning barrier of squalane, pomegranate sterols, and petrolatum for soft n’ smooth lips that last all day.
Dr Whitney Bowe - Tri-Liptide $34 + shipping
Biomimetic peptide and hyaluronic acid deliver immediate hydration and a glass-like shine, while restoring youthful lip architecture over time. It claims to enhance the definition of the cupid’s bow up to 28% (I'll be the judge of that). Non-sticky, transparent-pink formula is fragrance-free, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, non-comedogenic. Ingredients include Hyaluronic Acid, Orchid Extract, Squalane, Shea Butter, Ceramides, Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Castor Seed Oil.
Laneige - Lip Glowy Lightweight Hydration Balm with Shea Butter $19
A lightweight, moisture-rich lip balm made with shea butter, murumuru seed butters and tons of fruit extracts. It has a dreamy texture and a very strong fragrance. It feels so luxurious and a really glossy finish, but not super long lasting. This makes my lips feel so conditioned. I got the blueberry scent which smells like candy. The color is blue but sheer.
Ole Henriksen - Pout Preserve Hydrating Peptide Lip Treatment $22
Has fragrance and essential oils, has a thick texture not for the faint of heart it’s buttery it’s creamy, amazing unique treatment, and a shiny finish. Comes in tinted versions which are thick and cushy. It's tacky in how it feels and is incredibly nourishing. I don't recognize the first 5 ingredients as they are chemical names, but it also has peptides, Kokum and Mango Seed Butter and Cloudberry Oil. I have it in two shades, one limited edition shade which is a rose gold glimmer and the Cocoa Crème which has a chocolate brown tint and smells like coffee so I don't reach for it much.
Tower 28 - LipSoftie Hydrating Tinted Lip Treatment Balm $16
This has a gel, cream texture with a glossy finish. It is a non-sticky lip balm treatment that delivers the intense hydration of a lip mask with a sweet sheer tint using food-grade, non-artificial flavor that is safe for sensitive lips. I found this to be so thin, not moisturizing at all hasn’t underwhelming amount of shine . The pigment is sheer and come come off patchy like you see in the photo below. Some of the reviews say it feels grainy or that it burned their lips - probably from the Lysine in it. The ingredients include olive oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, castor oil and coconut oil. I got the color red bean mochi which is a new release for the Chinese New Year. If you bought it from their website it came with a red envelope with a $2 bill in it! You should smell these before you buy because I thought the Dulce De Leche smelled like coffee, I actually always find synthetic caramel to smell like that.
Laneige - Glaze Craze Tinted Polypeptide Lip Serum $22
A nourishing, tinted Korean lip serum with donut-inspired shades and flavors for visibly plump lips with a buildable high-shine finish. It has a silicon donut application that is soft and squishy. The ingredients include Polypeptide to plump, Argan Ceramides to nourish and support the lip moisture barrier and Polyglutamic Acid (PGA) to retain and attracts moisture.
Lip Masks
Naturium - Phyto-Glow Lip Mask $13
This also comes in a tube with tinted colors. This mask is formulated with shea butter, avocado oil and jojoba oil. It's not too thick, not too thin, and not much flavor. It's a nourishing treatment before bed.
Cay Skin - Deepwater Nourishing Lip Mask with Sea Moss and Aloe Stem Cells $23
A daily, nourishing & antioxidant-rich lip mask with Sea Moss & Hibiscus to replenish moisture levels for visibly soft, supple, and hydrated lips.
Lip Oil
Summer Fridays - Dream Lip Oil for Moisturizing Sheer Coverage $26
A plush lip oil that glides on like a dream to deliver high-shine tint and intense hydration. Ingredients have lots of lip oils that are really soft and nourishing for the lips like Shea, Jojoba and Vitamin E. This is thinner, compared to other lip oils. I hated the Dior lip oil, This is more lush and thicker than that. I can tell there’s oil in there, but it’s not too thin and oily. Sheer coverage but I find them be quiet and have a nice shiny finish but not high shine. It’s not wet glossy drip ain’t looking on the lips. I think they’re beautiful. It has no smell but do tingle form the plumping but not too intense. I bought the soft mauve color which has a cool undertone. I find it quite similar to the Saie Glossybounce High-Shine Hydrating Lip Gloss Oil.
