Apple Picking

Pumpkins, apple picking, sunflower fields, apple cider, winery visit, oh my!

This past weekend I had so much fun finally getting to do some fall activities with my friends as I crossed apple picking off my fall bucketlist. It was a gorgeous day in the mid-70s and my friends and I rented a car and drove an hour into the Virginia countryside. We picked granny smith apples off the trees which were juicy and ripe. At the orchard store we bought apple cider slushies!

They had some hay bales, cylindrical bundles of dried hay used to feed animals. I thought they were so cool looking I had to stop and take a pic. My friend was scared to get up on top of it, but it was pretty solid, just had a lot of bugs on it and I ended up with hay all in my jeans.

On the way out we found a field of sunflowers which was my favorite surprise! I love sunflowers and had been buying picked flowers for home but had never been to a field where they are grown. I had tried visiting a field this summer but the timing was never right. With the warm weather we’ve had this fall they have lasted this long!

After the orchard we drove to a local winery where we sat outside and had a picnic. I saved my apple cider slushie and mixed it with wine, perfect!

Later I went to go check out the new wharf and watched the sunset with some other friends and enjoyed another glass of wine.
